More than half of current homeowners expect to buy another home in near future, says survey

New York — The ‘s 2026 Homebuyer Insights Report is out and according to responses provided from April 13-May 10, 52% of the respondents report that they expect to buy another home.

Additionally, 22% of the 52% say they plan to buy another home within a year, offering purchase potential for expanded and décor sales at .

The included responses from some 2,000 individuals, 1,000 homeowners and 1,000 renters. Sparks Research conducted the survey for Bank of America and included adults 18 years old or older who make or share in household financial decisions and who currently own a home, previously owned a home or plan to own a home in the future.

Among respondents, 94% said homeownership provides stability, up from 79% in 2025. Additionally, 32% of respondents say they are more confident in their ability to buy a home this year, up from 27% in 2025. Affordability remains a key deterrent factor, but “intent to act” is rising.
