1. Big Lots’ home “a leader” in 4Q
Columbus, Ohio – For the second consecutive quarter, home was “a leading category in the store” at Big Lots, the closeout chain reported during its fourth quarter and yearend earnings call this morning. more

2. New Big Lots units target more affluent areas
Columbus, Ohio – Big Lots, which currently operated 1,361 units in 47 states, plans to open 80 new units this year and close up to 40 locations for net store growth of 40 stores, or approximately 3%. more

3. CHF bringing Kate Spade back into bed and bath
New York – CHF Industries today announced that it has entered into an exclusive licensing alliance with kate spade new york, to create the kate spade new york home collection. The arrangement covers the U.S. and some international markets. more

4. Waverly adds licensees for kitchen, bath and gifts
New York – Iconix Brand Group has signed three new license agreements that will extend its Waverly into the kitchen, bath, and gifting product categories. more

5. HGTV products to launch at NY Market
New York – The first wave of HGTV Home products in textiles will debut during the New York Home Fashions Market, which kicks off March 8. more

6. Court of Versailles reinterprets look for the 21st Century
New York – Court of Versailles is coming to market with three new bedding ensembles intended to update the look for the modern luxury consumer. more

7. HSNi marks Q4 turnaround
St. Petersburg, Fla. – While non-store retailer Cornerstone has not been the bright star of HSNi over the past year, this division made a “turnaround” in the fourth quarter, and by association home is also on the road to recovery. more

8. Kohl’s opens five stores today, four more coming this month
Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s is holding grand openings for five new stores today, and has announced four more openings to take place on March 24. The company plans to open a total of 30 new units by year end. more

9. Pendleton Woolen Mills bows new designs
Portland, Ore. -- In the midst of unveiling its new collections for fall, Pendleton Woolen Mills made history by unfurling the world’s largest seamless wool blanket. more

10. BJ’s sees high single digit total sales increase
Natick, Mass. – BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. posted a 9.4% increase in fourth quarter sales to $2.74 billion with a comp increase of 4.6%, the regional warehouse club reported this morning. more

Montreal – Beco industries has brought on long-time Springs exec John de La Roche as ceo to steer expansion of its businesses in North America. more

12. Social media users prefer to give product advice
San Fransisco – When it comes to discussing products on social media, active participants would rather give advice than receive it. more

13. Louisville expands Beautyrest Black collection
Louisville, Ken. – Louisville Bedding is updating its Beautyrest Black collection, originally introduced last market, with new designs and features. more

14. Carpenter bows new memory foam technology
Richmond, Va. – Utility bedding manufacturer Carpenter Co. is set to introduce Avena, which it claims is “the latest in memory foam technology.” more

15. United Feather & Down partners With Portico, Maas
Des Plaines, Ill. – United Feather & Down has inked deals with ‘green’ innovator Portico Home + Spa and sleep expert Dr. James B. Maas. The new partnerships extend UF&D’s stake in the eco-friendly and wellness arenas. more
