1. Fourth quarter gives Macy’s a lift
Cincinnati – Macy’s Inc. executives touted the impact of the My Macy’s localization effort on merchandising and said the home department was among the best-performing categories during the fourth quarter. more

2. Target in profit upswing, plans strong 2010
Minneapolis – With an impressive 53.3% upswing in earnings for the fourth quarter, to $1.24 per share, Target Corporation finished 2009 on a high note, posting a convincing full-year earnings mark of $2.86 per diluted share, up 15.2% from 2008. more

3. Sears posts big profit gains as sales volume shrinks
Hoffman Estates, Ill. – With U.S. Sears stores in a fourth-quarter 6.1% comp store drop, the 1.7% comp gain by Kmart made the downstairs chain a hero and, along with tightly controlled expenses, helped produce major profit gains by Sears Holdings for Q4 and the full 2009 retail year. more

4. Iconix records another record year
New York – Iconix Brand Group is “very pleased” with its retail-direct home brands, executives said during the company’s quarterly conference call today. more

5. Home Depot posts profit in 4Q
Atlanta – Coming off a solid fourth quarter, Home Depot sees 2010 as a transitional year, with a flat first half followed by a stronger second half. more

6. Comps post another weekly gain
New York – Same-store sales rose 1.9% during the third week of February after a 1.8% gain the previous week, the Johnson Redbook reported today. more

7. Consumer confidence in February down
New York -- The Conference Board reported its Consumer Confidence Index plunged from a January reading of 56.5 to a mark of 46.0 this month (1985 = 100). more

8. NRF plans Retail Innovation and Marketing Conference
Washington – The National Retail Federation (NRF) is bringing together a roster of industry executives to discuss cross-channel strategies, new approaches to marketing, social media, and branding among other topics at the inaugural Retail Innovation and Marketing Conference March 2 through 4. more

9. Peking Handicraft joins with Paganelli for kitchen collection
San Francisco -- Home textiles, décor and gift item supplier Peking Handicraft Inc. has partnered with artist Jennifer Paganelli for a new collection kitchen towels, tablecloths and aprons more
