1. Merchants Make December Gains
New York – While December same store sales reports were a mixed assortment, there was a clear enough positive trend, as even the comp sales laggards today announced outlooks at the high end of previous projections – and several chains even revised their forecasts upward.  more

3. Bed Bath & Beyond Posts Powerful Profit Gain
Union, N.J. - Driven by a hefty 7.3% increase in same store sales for the third quarter ended Nov. 28, Bed Bath & Beyond posted net earnings of $151.3 million, or 59 cents per share, up 72.5% and 70.6% respectively.  more  
4. Sears Holdings Sees Vast Q4 Earnings Upswing
Hoffman Estates, Ill. - Encouraged by strong December comparable store sales by its Kmart division, Sears Holdings today revised its fourth quarter earnings outlook upwards from previous guidance - to more than double last year’s results.  more  
5. Cost Plus reports holiday results
Oakland, Calif. – Cost Plus reported sales slipped 1.8% to $261.1 million during the nine-week holiday selling period that ended Jan. 2.  more  
6. Nishat Chunian to display new capabilities
Lahore Pakistan – Nishat Chunian Ltd., manufacturer of higher quality solid color sheeting, will highlight its new printing operation by showing its most extensive line of home fashions at date at Heimtextil.  more
