1. Family Dollar boasts strength in its Q1 results
Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores Inc. boosted first quarter earnings per share 16.7% to 49 cents on a 14% increase in net income to $67.6 million. more

2. Macy’s to close five units in coming weeks
Cincinnati -- Macy’s Inc. plans to permanently close five units in the coming weeks as part of the what the company described as an “ongoing annual process to selectively prune underperforming locations while also opening new ones to fill gaps in local markets.” more

3. Anthony to lead Sharper Image consumer-direct biz
Farmington Hills, MI. January 5 2010 – Camelot Venture Group, the license holders and operators of the Sharperimage.com ecommerce business as well as the catalog business has hired Mark Anthony as senior vp and general merchandise manager responsible for developing, sourcing and merchandising products. more
