1. Target tamps down U.S. store openings
Minneapolis – Target will focus on renovations this year and longer-term expansion in urban U.S. locations and outside the country. Instead of opening its usual 60 stores in 2010, it will open only 10 on a net basis. more

2. Bloomingdale’s to open outlet stores
Cincinnati – Macy’s Inc. will launch Bloomingdale’s Outlet stores in four locations this summer and is bringing back industry veteran Arnie Orlick to develop and expand the concept stores. more

3. Steve August named marketing chief for SharperImage.com
Farmington Hills, Mich. – SharperImage.com has tapped Steve August as senior vp and chief marketing officer for the SharperImage.com pm;ome and catalog operation. more

4. Springs to launch von Furstenberg collection
New York – Springs Global will roll out an extension home goods collection with apparel designer Diane von Furstenberg in January 2011 that will include bedding, bath, tabletop, and decorative accessories. more

5. Culp fights to protect fabric copyrights
High Point — Fabric and mattress ticking maker Culp Inc. said it has reached agreements with unnamed customers and fabric suppliers over copyrighted fabric designs and will be pursuing others who are using unauthorized versions of its designs. more

6. Loloi Rugs Wins ARTS award for Rug Manufacturer of the Year
Dallas – Loloi Rugs has won the ARTS Award for Rug Manufacturer of the Year at the Dallas Gift Show. more

7. 7 W adds 12 new permanent showrooms
New York – In time for the Gift & Home Textiles Market week, 12 new permanent showroom tenants are opening their doors at industry showroom hub 7 W New York. more

8. IFDA to present color forecast for 2011
New York – The New York Chapter of The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) will present "Color Forecast 2011” at the New York International Gift Fair and Home Textiles Market at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Feb. 1. more
