New York – Macy’s chairman, president and ceo, Terry J. Lundgren, has been elected as chairman of the board of the National Retail Federation and Stephen I. Sadove, chairman and ceo of Saks Incorporated, was elected to serve as first vice chairman of the organization’s board of directors. more

Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General’s president and chief strategy officer, David Beré, has decided to retire at the closing of the company’s current fiscal year, which ends on January 29. more

4. Pier 1 reports 5.6% increase in sales over five-week holiday selling period
Fort Worth, Texas – Pier 1 Imports Inc. reported a 5.6% increase in its sales to $218 million over the five-week holiday selling period over its $207 million in sales in the same period the prior year. more

5. Culp Inc. updates 3Q results thanks to gains in upholstery fabric sales
High Point, N.C. -- Based on quarterly results to date and current estimates, upholstery and mattress fabrics company Culp Inc. said its overall sales for the third quarter are now expected to be up approximately 18% over the prior year’s same period. more
