1. ShopNBC focus shift good for home categories 
Minneapolis – During the first nine months of the year, ShopNBC’s new customer rates are up 86% for the home category.  more  
2. BJ’s domestics among positive discretionary categories in 3Q
Natick, Mass. – Domestics and housewares were among BJ’s Wholesale Club’s discretionary general merchandise departments that posted positive results during the retailer’s third quarter.  more  
 
3. JCPenney drops big books
Plano, Texas – JCPenney will stop publishing its twice a year big book catalogs. Instead it will focus on targeted specialty catalogs, the Internet and social media. The Christmas catalog, however, will continue.  more  
4. Sears' Black Friday sweepstakes exclusive to Facebook users
Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears has launched a contest on Facebook that will award $500 gift cards as well as a chance for 25 VIP winners to shop for Black Friday specials ahead of the general public.  more  
5. Overstock.com adds new international markets
Salt Lake City – Internet retailer Overstock.com has begun selling and shipping to Mexico, China, Japan, India, South Korea, Taiwan and New Zealand.  more  
6. Protect-A-Bed promotes Eisenberg
Chicago – Alan Eisenberg has been promoted to senior vp of sales at Protect-A-Bed.  more
