1. Macy’s lowers forecast, asserts financial health
Cincinnati – Macy’s Inc. today lowered its forecast for the year to $1.30 to $1.50. It had previously expected earnings for share for the year of $1.70 to $1.85.  more  
2. Dever is new home vp at Mervyn’s 
Hayward, Calif. -- Mid-tier department store chain Mervyn's, which in late July filed for Bankruptcy under Chapter 11 protection, has hired Jane Dever as its new vp, dmm of home. She replaces Michael Rotar, who earlier was promoted to director of e-commerce. Dever was formerly vp, dmm of home furnishings for Macy's North (formerly Marshall Fields).

3.  Shaw to shutter yarn plant 
Dalton, Ga. – Responding to decreasing demand for certain soft floor covering products, Shaw Industries Group Inc. plans to permanently shut down its spun yarn facility, which it calls Plant 76, in Trenton, Ga.  more  
4. Correction: LNT
Yesterday’s item on Linens ‘n Things’ expected liquidation – Liquidators make LNT stalking horse bid – incorrectly stated that the deadline for bidders was today. The actual deadline is Monday, Oct. 13.
