1. Mervyns sues its owners, plus Target  
Wilmington, Del. – Filing a Sept. 2 lawsuit alleging a “fraudulent transfer action,” Mervyns LLC is suing 37 financial defendants – the private equity sponsors and private equity owners that bought it from Target – plus Target Corp. itself, which may offer the biggest prize, or perhaps the biggest trouble.  more  
2. Pier 1 betters assortment, tightens operations
New York – Specialty retailer Pier 1 Imports narrowed its second-quarter loss and is on track to continue its turnaround, said president and ceo Alex Smith, speaking at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference here.  more  
 
3. Top home merchant Vernon resigns from Fortunoff   
Uniondale, N.Y. – Dave Vernon has resigned as evp and general merchandise manager of home for Fortunoff. The company confirmed that it is seeking a successor for the position.  more  
4. The Curtain Exchange marks 10 years  
Dallas – The Curtain Exchange, a specialty retailer offering handcrafted, custom curtain treatments, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this month.  more  
5. Perfect Fit introduces OOdles bedding line  
Charlotte, N.C. – Basic bedding and comfort product maker Perfect Fit Industries is set to debut a new bedding line called OOdles that it calls a combination of nature and technology.  more  
6. Target adds to Commercial Interiors unit 
Minneapolis – Target Commercial Interiors, a wholly owned subsidiary of Target Corp., today reported that it has completed its purchase of Walsh Bros. and U.S. Business Interiors (USBI) – two Phoenix-based businesses.  more  
7. Bon-Ton rewards for Goodwill givers   
York, Pa. -- In its semi-annual Goodwill Sale, Bon-Ton Stores is offering 20%-off coupons to shoppers who donate “clean, gently-used clothing and home textiles” to its stores during the Sept.10-22 program.  more  
8. Commonwealth debuts voiles for the young & chic
Monteal – Voile has been around for a while, but at the upcoming New York Home Fashions Market Commonwealth Home Fashions hopes to reposition it as something younger consumers can make part of their lifestyle.  more  
9. Shoppers slowly adopt green goods, practices 
New York – Consumer behavior is getting greener, if only bit by bit, a new survey from WSL Strategic Retail shows.  more  
10. New HTT blog on Maison & Objet now live
Design-watcher Hermine Mariaux – whose eponymous international marketing and licensing firm holds the U.S. licensing rights for Court of Versailles, among others – is in Paris for the fall Maison et Objet show. Her blog is live now with trend observations from a visit to Parisian home furnishings stores.  more
