1. Dillard’s keys on cost control
Little Rock, Ark. – Southeastern regional department store chain Dillard’s gave a conservative outlook for 2008, projecting $204 million in capital expenditures and the opening of just four new stores at its annual meeting of shareholders last Saturday. more

2. Design Within Reach to open Tools for Living store
San Francisco – Online and brick-and-mortar specialty retailer Design Within Reach will open two new Tools for Living stores in September, one each in Santa Monica, Calif. and Manhattan’s Soho district. more

3. JCP rewires financial group
Plano, Texas – With the coming retirement (June 3) of longtime JCPenney executive William Alcorn, who is svp, controller and chief procurement officer for non-resale goods and services, the $19.9 billion retailer has made a range of promotions and hires in its finance organization. more
