1. JCP lowers 1Q guidance, stock tumbles
Plano, Texas – Department store retailer JCPenney today lowered its first quarter sales and earnings guidance, projecting profit of about $0.50 per share – starkly below the previous projection of $0.75 to $0.80 EPS.  more  
2. Dollar General eyes home categories in turnaround bid
Goodlettsville, Tenn. – Even after the home category suffered an 11.7% decline in sales during the fourth quarter, discount merchandiser Dollar General sees an opportunity in home goods as a way to attract more shoppers and have them spend more, the 8,200-plus-unit chain said during its quarterly and yearend earnings call today.  more  
 
3. Li & Fung surpasses three-year plan
Hong Kong – Diversified consumer products supplier and distributor Li & Fung has “successfully exceeded our original 2005-2007 Three-Year Plan,” which targeted $10 billion in revenues, by achieving total annual revenues of $11.8 billion, the company said (all figures in US$).  more  
4. Data breach case leads to TJX audit agreement
Washington – Off-price leader TJX Cos. has reached an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to undergo biannual audits for 20 years, as part of a settlement stemming from the credit card data breach in which millions of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls customers’ files were stolen.  more  
5. Crown Crafts names Chen to direct new China office 
Gonzales, La. – Infant and juvenile textiles supplier Crown Crafts Inc. has opened a foreign representative office in Shanghai, China, and has recruited Christine Chen as manager.  more  
6. Peking Handicraft debuts additional Horner collections
San Francisco – Diversified home décor supplier Peking Handicraft, Inc. has introduced new licensed collections designed by Anna Maria Horner: Lollipop Kitchen and Garden Party.  more  
7. Bon-Ton to consolidate distribution centers 
York, Pa. – Department store operator The Bon-Ton Stores will shutter its distribution center in Green Bay, Wis. and consolidate its regional functions into three DCs in Whitehall, Pa.; Fairborn, Ohio; and Rockford, Ill.  more  
8. Website upgrade offers cmi clientele better service 
Pawtucket, R I – Braided-texture rugs and home accessories manufacturer cmi (Colonial Mills Inc.) has launched what it described as a “new, clean, more inviting and user-friendly” website – colonialmills.com – in line with the company’s 30th anniversary this year.  more  
9. JCPenney elects president Ken Hicks to board
Plano, Texas – JCPenney has named president and chief merchandising officer Ken Hicks to the board of directors; he has held his current titles since 2005.  more
