1. Pakistan mills call ‘fraud’ in Dan River case 
Karachi, Pakistan – With an estimated $30 million in Pakistani textiles hung up by the Dan River bankruptcy, a group of the country’s mills has retained lawyers to explore lawsuits against Dan River and Indian parent company GHCL, possibly in both the United States and India.  more  
2. Price competition undercuts comp-store sales  
New York – Retailers saw comparable-store sales slow sharply in the third week of April, dropping the month-to-date gain to 1.7%, just below the targeted 1.8% comp gain, the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
 
3. Consumer confidence deteriorates
New York – Noting, “The glass remains half empty,” Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Research Center said the April reading of the Consumer Confidence Index does not bode well for a strong summer retail season.  more  
4. Martha Stewart narrows quarterly loss  
New York – Though Martha Stewart’s Kmart business got clunked in the first quarter, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia was “pleased” with the performance of the Martha Stewart Collection at Macy’s.  more  
5. Textiles weaken at Tuesday Morning   
Dallas – The textiles category was among the “particularly depressed” segments at Tuesday Morning Corp. during its third quarter, the 821-unit retailer said during its earnings call today.  more  
6. Duckwall-ALCO swings to red ink in 2007 results  
Abilene, Kan. – Retail general merchandiser Duckwall-ALCO Stores posted a net loss of $224,000 for its fiscal year ended Feb. 3, down drastically from net income of $5.7 million for the prior year – even as sales held up quite well in the current climate.  more  
7. LNT sheds one board member  
Clifton, N.J. -- George Golleher has resigned from the boards of directors of both Linens ’n Things and its parent, Linens Holding Co.  more  
8. Levinsohn taps Parrish to drive BackDrop sales   
New York – Private label home furnishings supplier Levinsohn Textile has hired Lara Parrish as vp of sales; she will direct all sales efforts and will coordinate the new product initiative of BackDrop upholstered headboards.  more  
9. EWHT panel examines freelance design biz
New York – Navigating the freelance option in today’s market is the topic of a panel discussion to be hosted next month by Executives Working in Home Textiles (EWHT), coordinated by Lisa Goldmeer, business development manager, home division, of talent recruitment agency 24 Seven Inc.  more
