1. Commerce Dept., NRF confirm slowing retail sales  
Washington – Retail sales in March dipped 0.9% unadjusted over last year and were down 0.3% from the prior month, according to U.S. Commerce Dept. figures seen through the lens of the National Retail Federation, which strips out sales at car dealers, gas stations, and restaurants.  more  
2. New Wal-Mart exec eyes Eastern European markets  
Bentonville, Ark. – Global retailer Wal-Mart Stores today announced the appointment of Stephan Fanderl as president of Wal-Mart Emerging Markets – East, a role in which he will lead exploration of retail opportunities in Russia and neighboring markets.  more
