1. March comp-store sales fall flat
New York – Merchandisers pushed up comparable-store sales just 0.8% in the fifth and final week of the March retail calendar, with the full-month comp gain of 1.1% falling short of the 1.4% goal, the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
2. Target names Tesija to merchandising post  
Minneapolis – Upscale discounter Target has promoted Kathee Tesija to evp of merchandising, effective May 1.  more  
 
3. Williams-Sonoma online sales surpass $1 billion  
San Francisco -- Multiformat home furnishings retailer Williams-Sonoma posted web sales of $1.1 billion in 2007, an increase of 18.6% from web sales of $927.6 million in 2006 – breaking into the top echelon of online merchants, according to ecommerce news publisher Internet Retailer.  more  
4. Brentwood settles labor issue with union 
Carson, Calif. – Brentwood Originals, the leading decorative pillow supplier in the country, and the United Steelworkers Union have reached an agreement, bringing to a halt the month-long workers’ strike at one of the company’s facilities, Brentwood’s president and ceo Loren Sweet told HTT today.  more  
5. AAFA pushes Commerce on competitiveness  
Arlington, Va. – U.S. textiles and apparel suppliers could benefit from a half-dozen trade policy reforms, according to a platform set out by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) yesterday at a U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) meeting.  more  
6. Oeko-Tex, Lenzing presenting at L.A. Show  
Greensboro, N.C. -- The International Oeko-Tex Association, in partnership with Lenzing Fibers, will present a seminar, “Authentic Green,” at the Los Angeles International Textile Show, to be held at the California Market Center next Monday, April 14 at 1 p.m.  more
