1. Belk profits held down by merger overhead
Charlotte, N.C. -- Southern regional department store operators Belk Inc. recorded fiscal 2008 net profit of $95.7 million for the year ended Feb. 2, 2008, squeezed down 47.4% from $181.8 million one year earlier.  more  
2. Wal-Mart leading linens destination in March
Columbus, Ohio – Among all consumers, Wal-Mart was the prime destination in March, the researcher said, with 18.1% for home textiles shoppers, followed by Bed Bath & Beyond with 11.9% and JCPenney with a 7.5% share, according to the findings released today by BIGresearch.  more  
 
3. A. L. Ellis to open larger showroom at 230 Fifth
Fall River, Mass. – On May 1, diversified manufacturer A.L. Ellis Inc./Patriot Curtain will unveil an expanded showroom at 230 Fifth Ave., Suite 1612, as it continues to add to its product offering.  more  
4. TJX settles with MasterCard for $24 million
Framingham, Mass. – In the latest piece of the shopper database hack puzzle at off-price retailer TJX Companies, the merchandiser has reached a settlement with MasterCard under which TJX will fund up to $24 million in recovery payments to consumers.  more  
5. Jo-Ann board adds Perdue, DePinto
Hudson, Ohio – Fabric and crafts retailer Jo-Ann Stores has election two members to its board of directors: David Perdue and Joseph DePinto.  more  
6.  IFDA, 7W to host FIT senior project event  
New York -- The New York Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) and showroom center 7 W New York will host the first industry presentation of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Home Products Development Senior Project on April 24 at 7 West 34th Street, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  more
