1. March same-store sales falter
New York – Merchandisers that had picked up steam in mid-March seem to have run out of gas in the fourth week, with comparable-store sales up just 1.0% in the week ending March 29, for a month-to-date comp gain of 1.1% the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
2. Springs ceo discusses results
São Paulo, Brazil – Sometime between the second half of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, the business trends of Springs Global should begin showing improvement, the company’s chairman and ceo told investors in a conference call today.  more  
 
3. Maddalene returns to WestPoint
New York – WestPoint Home has named Scott Maddalene the new senior vp Ralph Lauren/marketing, effective March 31. He will report to WestPoint ceo Joe Pennacchio.  more  
4. Heritage House buys Belle Fabrics
Concord, N.C. – Heritage House/ITC has purchased Belle Fabrics International, an importer of high-end upholstery fabrics.  more  
5. DreamFit thread counts seminar set
High Point, N.C. – Bedding supplier and designer team DreamFit / Sidney K will host a seminar in conjunction with the Interior Design Society on the subject of thread counts in sheets, during the High Point Market next week.  more  
6. Duckwall’s new management drops Wm. Blair services  
Abilene, Kan. – Rural general merchandiser Duckwall-Alco Stores has ended its relationship with investment bank William Blair & Co., which it had retained in January as a financial advisor.  more
