1. March same-store sales pick up
New York – Merchandisers made headway toward comparable-store sales goals in the third week of March, with comps up 1.4% for the week, the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
2. Dillard’s leadership under greater investor scrutiny  
Little Rock, Ark. – As the proxy battle gets underway over control of department store operator Dillard’s, investors led by Barington Capital Group have demanded rapid access to financial records dealing with decision-making, compensation, perks and related materials from the board of directors and executives.  more  
 
3. Metropolitan Window Fashions adds two stores  
New York -- “Great service is our mission,” said Bruce Heyman, president of Metropolitan Window Fashions, a 75-year-old, family-owned design and retail business, on the occasion of the opening of a fourth and fifth store in the metro area.  more  
4. London Luxury gains anti-allergy, asthma certification 
New York – Bedding and bath manufacturer London Luxury said several of its luxury allergen-barrier products have been certified asthma- and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).  more  
5. Macy’s ups ante with Earth Week events  
New York – Department store operator Macy’s will provide marketing and exclusive financial support to the National Park Foundation, in celebration of Earth Week and National Park Week.  more  
6. Bon-Ton consumer trade-in benefits Goodwill  
York, Pa. – By enticing its shoppers to “clean out their closets,” department store operator Bon-Ton Stores will turn over significant apparel and home goods to Goodwill Industries – and in return, participating shoppers gain 20%-off coupons for apparel purchases.  more
