1. LNT enacting measures to narrow losses
Clifton, N.J. – Linens ’n Things managed to hold the top line fairly flat during the fourth quarter, but its net loss nearly tripled as margins fell away amid climbing costs and a promotional selling cycle.  more  
2. Dillard’s profit falls as sales slump 
Little Rock, Ark. – Regional department store operator Dillard’s reported sharply reduced profit for 2007, with net income of $53.8 million down 78.1% from $245.6 million in the prior year.  more  
 
3. Home puts big hurt on Stein Mart  
Jacksonville, Fla. – Stein Mart’s home business woes doubled in pain last fall, so much so that the 280-unit mid-tier department store plans to reduce square footage space in the department, in order to expand its more lucrative fashion accessory business, the company said this morning during its fourth-quarter and yearend earnings call.  more  
4. JCPenney merges store, direct units   
Plano, Texas – JCPenney is combining its retail and direct (catalog and Internet) buying responsibilities effective April 7. The retail and direct segments of the business have had separate buying responsibilities until now.  more  
5. Cost Plus loss doubles, retailer says business better 
Oakland, Calif. – Specialty retailer Cost Plus World Market reported a fiscal 2007 net loss of $55.5 million, more than double the $22.5 million loss the year prior, but president and ceo Barry Feld asserted, “We believe the fundamentals of the business have been restored.”  more  
6. Robert Allen plans Las Vegas showroom  
Las Vegas -- The Robert Allen Group, a designer and marketer of decorative fabrics to the interior design trade, plans to open a Robert Allen/Beacon Hill showroom in the Las Vegas Design Center here, to offer fabric and furniture.  more  
7. Call for High Point new products!
HTT is preparing its preview of new products set for introduction at the High Point International Home Furnishings Market.  more
