1. March same-store sales staying soft  
New York – Merchandisers continued to fall short of goals in March, with comparable store sales up 1.1% in the second week, for a month-to-date comp gain of 1.1%, vs. the target of 1.4%, the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
2. Icahn sees shrinking WestPoint sales into 2009  
New York – Revenues at WestPoint International dropped 30% but operating losses moderated in the fourth quarter as the company continued to bleed off unprofitable business and felt the impact of a slowing economy.  more  
 
3. JCPenney launches Simply Green  
Plano, Texas – Department store operator JCPenney has initiated Simply Green, a set of eco-friendly packaging and presentation graphics and definitions to assist shoppers in their decision-making on JCP private label merchandise.  more  
4. Cost Plus extends contract of ceo Feld  
Oakland, Calif. – Specialty retailer Cost Plus World Market has extended the employment contract of president and ceo Barry Feld through October 2012, a three-year extension.  more  
5. Techtextil ups event frequency  
Atlanta – Textile technology trade fair Techtextil North America will double its frequency to a yearly schedule, and will be held in alternate years in Atlanta and in a Western location, starting with Las Vegas.  more  
6.  Surtex student winners announced  
White Plains, N.Y. – From more than 100 student entries stemming from 22 schools worldwide, a jury of design industry professionals has selected the Surtex 2008 International Student Design Competition winners.  more  
7. Call for Performance Products!
