1. Target to sell half its credit-card receivables
Minneapolis – Target Stores said it is negotiating “with a credit partner” to sell about half of its credit card receivables; the price will be $4 billion. more

2. Jo-Ann profits by niche pursuit
Hudson, Ohio – The decorative fabric and sewing-related businesses can be thanked for helping Jo-Ann Stores enjoy its fourth consecutive quarter of positive same-store sales, the 774-unit chain said during its fourth quarter and fiscal 2008 yearend earnings call yesterday afternoon. more

3. Duckwall-ALCO cuts board to five directors
Abilene, Kan. – One week after bidding farewell to its previous chairman and instating several new directors including new chairman Royce Winsten, the board of directors of rural retailer Duckwall-ALCO has cut its size to five members. Departing are Dennis Mullin and Patrick Doherty. more
