Abilene, Kan. – Rural retailer Duckwall-ALCO has defused a potential proxy battle by altering the makeup of its board of directors and bidding farewell to its chairman, Warren Gfeller.  more  
2. JCPenney opens 10 stores  
Plano, Texas – Department store operator JCPenney is holding grand openings today for 10 new stores in eight states.  more  
 
3. Brentwood Originals dealing with strike  
Carson, Calif. – Leading decorative pillow and throw supplier Brentwood Originals has been working out service arrangements with customers since about 180 workers went on strike at the company’s Youngstown, Ohio facility March 7.  more  
4. Valley Forge fiercely eco-friendly on fabrics    
New York – Interior designers and decorative fabric designers are joining the campaign to develop home furnishings that are recyclable and environmentally friendly.  more  
5. IFDA board, president, events announced    
New York – Marketing specialist Maureen Klein has been chosen as the new president of The New York Chapter of The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA).  more
