1.  Department store comps lagging February goals 
New York – Three weeks into the February retail month, department stores are running below comparative store targets, as discounters continue to slightly exceed their goals, the Johnson Redbook reported today.  more  
2. Macy’s to slow store growth, boost interaction  
Cincinnati – Department store titan Macy’s Inc. will spend less on opening new stores and more on better in-store execution, online business and customer service, the retailer said during its fourth-quarter and year-end earnings call today.  more  
 
3. Target to update Fieldcrest, chase better home business  
Minneapolis – A “reinvention” of its exclusive Fieldcrest brand program in home textiles is being prepared for style-driven discounter Target for 2008, the retailer said today as it reported full fiscal year 2007 earnings of $2.85 billion, up 2.2% from $2.79 billion the year prior.  more  
4. Whoopi G Beds head to QVC 
West Chester, Pa. – Online and television retailer QVC will launch Whoopi Goldberg’s G Beds this week; the line was previewed by manufacturer Colonial Home Textiles last summer during the New York Home Fashions Market.  more
