1. Wellman files Ch. 11, receives DIP financing  
Fort Mill, S.C. – Polyester resin and fiber manufacturer Wellman, Inc. has filed voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code for the Southern District of New York; the company received a commitment from its existing revolving credit facility lenders for up to $225 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing.  more  
2. Lowe’s profits tumble, 2008 outlook modest    
Mooresville, N.C. – Home improvement retailer Lowe’s Companies reported sharply reduced quarterly and full-year 2007 earnings – and for 2008 projected a comp-store decline and continued trimming of profits.  more  
 
3.  Scoperta moves again    
Cirencester, England – Scoperta, the decorative textiles and home textiles trade show that runs concurrently with Proposte, will move its location to Chiasso, Switzerland, its first home during eight of its 11 years.  more  
4. Family Dollar taps Venberg  
Matthews, N.C. – Discount chain Family Dollar Stores has named Bryan Venberg svp human resources, reporting to Howard Levine, chairman and ceo.  more  
5. TiA Call for Submissions
Home Textiles Today invites suppliers that exhibited during New York Home Fashions Market and/or the recent New York Home Textiles Market Week/NY International Gift Fair to submit images of their “Best of Show” new products for the TiA -- the Textiles Industry Award -- which spotlights the most trend-right textiles coming out of Winter Market.  more
