Persian Rugs OK despite embargo against Iran

Despite the tense relations between the U.S. and Iran, carpets and other textile floor coverings are about the only product the U.S. can legally import from the Persian nation.

There are at least 62 types of Persian carpets and rugs, as outlined in Wikipedia.org under the Persian Carpet section. They are based mostly on the region where they are made., titled "Economic Sanctions: Agencies Face Competing Priorities in Enforcing the U.S. Embargo on Cuba" and dated November 2007, outlines on page 80 the permissible imports from Iran. Along with carpets and textile floor coverings are gifts valued at $100 or less, information or informational materials and food intended for human consumption. All other imports are prohibited.
