QVC hits the Mall with flagship store

The Mall of America, in Bloomington, MN, has announced that QVC @ The Mall, a subsidiary of QVC, plans to open a 2,500-square-foot flagship store with broadcasting capabilities. QVC @ The Mall initially tested a 500-square-foot temporary space, where customers could see, touch and purchase much of the same merchandise they can purchase from QVC's television program or through iQVC, its e-commerce site. The space will also have broadcasting studios, so QVC @ The Mall can produce live television shows.

Lowe's slates state-of-the-art DC for NC

Lowe's Companies plans to build a state-of-the-art regional distribution center in Northampton County, NC. The 1.3-million-square-foot facility is slated for construction on a 225-acre site this summer, to be completed within 18 months. A $90 million facility, including inventory, it will supply products to more than 90 stores throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and employ nearly 600 people. Lowe's currently operates six DCs nationwide, with two more being built in Ohio and Wyoming.

House2Home opens 17 new stores in Los Angeles

Seventeen new House2Home stores opened recently in the greater Los Angeles area, equaling almost two million square feet of retail space, as part of parent company HomeBase's overall strategy to convert its HomeBase stores to the new home decorating format. Twenty more converted stores will open in June and July, for a total of 42 House2Home stores in California, Arizona and Nevada.
