Eugster named chairman of ShopKo

GREEN BAY, WI — Jack Eugster has been named chairman of the board of ShopKo Stores, a position held by Bill Podany since March 2000. Eugster has served on the board since 1991.
Podany, who will continue as president, ceo and director, said, "I am pleased that Jack, a long-time board member, will assume the position of chairman, thus allowing me more time to concentrate on merchandising, marketing, logistics and store operations of both the ShopKo and Pamida retail divisions. Jack and I will work together to build the ShopKo company's profitability and enhance the shareholder value."
Eugster served as chairman and ceo of Musicland Stores Corp. and its predecessors from 1980 to 2001. He has also served on the boards of several publicly traded companies, including Best Buy Co. and Donaldson Co.
In addition, ShopKo appointed John Pindred as vp, treasurer, reporting to Brian Bender, senior vp and cfo. Pindred will be responsible for managing the company's working capital, debt structure, liquidity, banking relationships, risk management and short-term investments, as well as oversee and ensure U.S. Customs compliance for all import shipments.
Pindred last served as vp and treasurer of discount retailer Service Merchandise. He replaces Jeffrey Simons, who left the company earlier this year.
