JCPenney home biz on plan

PLANO, TX — JCPenney's Vanessa Castagna, in a press meeting after the annual shareholders' meeting last week, said that, overall, home was on plan for the first quarter, but wouldn't say if the business was ahead.
Castagna, executive vp and coo, merchandising and catalog, said the home business is "moderately strong," primarily in bed and bath. However, she said, this performance is not up to the gains in women's accessories, intimates and men's suits and separates.
She also said that home was strong in both the catalog and Internet divisions.
Also at the meeting, Allen Questrom, chairman and ceo, noted that JCPenney produced the largest volume in home and fashion apparel on the Internet.
