American Fabrics moves showroom

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/30/2001

NEW YORK — American Fabrics Co., a manufacturer of table linens, kitchen textiles and decorative pillows, will move out of its eighth-floor showroom at 295 Fifth Avenue as of May 1.

The company will relocate the showroom to its corporate headquarters at 1359 Broadway, 16th floor.

American Fabrics was renting the showroom, a space about 4,000 to 5,000 square feet in size, at the Home Textiles building on 295 Fifth Avenue for the past seven years.

"It just got too large for us," said Ron Taylor, national sales manager.

Taylor explained that American Fabrics originally began renting the space at 295 Fifth Avenue when the company was also a bedding manufacturer. Back then, it needed the ample room to showcase its wares, he said.

But two years ago, American Fabrics exited the bedding business and is now focusing its efforts on lace products, table linens, kitchen textiles and decorative pillows — the latter being the newest addition to the company's line as of spring market.

"It just makes better sense to use those dollars toward the company instead and move the showroom up here in our Broadway offices," Taylor said. "There's no one we work with who isn't happy to come here to see us. The timing is right. After the major market we just had, now we have the time to get straightened up for the next market in a new showroom."

The new showroom — which is about 50 square feet by 100 square feet — "will be more compact space that we can utilize and will give us a more focused and compact presentation, the way we like to see it," Taylor added.
