Calvin Klein bedding blends fashion, comfort

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/9/2001

NEW YORK — With its latest introductions, Calvin Klein Home continues to blend fashion with easy, comfortable looks for its signature line of bedding.

The New York-based home textiles arm of Calvin Klein introduced four ensembles under the Collections line while two beds were unveiled for the Khaki line.

Paper Blossom, Layered Shadows, Raised Mesh and Herringbone Plaid are all new for the Collections line. Of the four, only Raised Mesh uses sateen sheets while the other three use percale construction.percent U.S.-grown pima cotton construction.

Juliana features a vintage document look utilizing a floral print on the brushed ottoman cloth comforter that reverses to a stripe. Contrasting cord on the comforter and contrasting ruffles on the pillow sham result in the more opulent look. A queen duvet will be available for a retail price point of $199, while a queen flat sheet will be offered at $69.99.

"It's all about the right quality at the right price point," said Normand Savaria, senior vp/chief merchandising officer, Revman Industries, which manufactures the Tommy Hilfiger Home lineup. "That's what the Crest Collection is all about."

Heirloom Paisley utilizes several different fabrics, such as velvet, silk and sateen, within its top-of-bed elements to present a luxurious look and feel to the ensemble. The paisley comforter, done on a maroon ground, reverses to a menswear stripe, while the coordinates feature a floral print.

Both beds are also designed to be mixed and matched with the core solid sheet program, which also features a new addition, a damask construction in four soft shades: blue, yellow, angora and ivory.

New for the Hilfiger Collection line are Rutherford Gardens and Natalie. Coordinate sheeting for both uses a 200-count, 100 percent cotton construction. Natalie also features a full line of bathroom coordinates.

Rutherford Gardens "has more of a country cottage feeling," said Elizabeth McNulty, design director, Hilfiger Home. The floral print comforter reverses to a mini-gingham and coordinates with denim accessories.

"It has more of a younger, fresher look that's mixed with a traditional feeling," McNulty said of the ensemble.

Natalie, which possibly caters to a slightly younger crowd than Rutherford Gardens, features gingham and flowers mixed in a patchwork construction on the comforter face. The coordinate sheeting features a mixture of stripes and strawberries. Also available for the line is a coordinating quilt of the same name.

Utilizing a denim story will be the new Tommy Back to School line. Two beds, Jack for boys and Jenna for girls, are done in a 12-and-a-half-ounce, garment-washed denim. Jack features red country plaid sheeting with Hilfiger's signature cuff detail, while Jenna features a calico floral and retro roses. Both are scheduled to begin shipping this month.
