Northwest extends kids licenses

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/26/2001

NEW YORK -Playing to its strength in licensed product, The Northwest Company introduced a handful of new juvenile licensed tapestry throws and plush raschel knits at this week's market.

Spongebob Squarepants joins the lineup from the Nickelodeon Network's hit TV show, "Rocket Power." Clifford the Big Red Dog is another new novelty, and making its U.S. debut is Bob the Builder, an English novelty look.

Each of the three new licenses is available in a woven acrylic tapestry construction or as a raschel knit. The wholesale cost is $15.

The ongoing Nascar driver line continues to grow in popularity, and a number of new drivers are added this week. "Based on the great sell-throughs our retail partners had in the fourth quarter and new Fox coverage of this exciting sport, we estimate sales doubling in 2001 for this category," said Stan Mieszkowski, vp, sales.

Freshening up its big business in sports throws, Northwest debuts all-new looks for its National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association and National Hockey League licensed throws. New for the NFL license is a 60" x 80" Royal Plush raschel throw available in all team logos. The cost price is $15.

The company's jacquard woven pillow line gets a major restyling, with larger, plumper pillows. Also new is a point-of-purchase display, which can be used to merchandise pillows by market. Pillows are $9.

Also new is a broad range of whimsical looks added to the Royal Plush raschel throw line at $13.
