Ames to open 5 new stores

ROCKY HILL, CT -Ames Department Stores will grow its store base with five new locations later this month, the company announced, solidifying its presence in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.
"We're pleased to be opening stores in these communities," said Joe Ettore, chairman and ceo. "The 26 stores we opened in 2000 have been strong performers for the company, and we're confident these new locations will further solidify our position as the nation's leading regional discount department store."
Three of the new stores-located in Chicago and Villa Park, IL, and Gary, IN-will increase the Ames' openings in the greater Chicago area to 13 since September 2000.
An additional location in Columbus, OH, will be Ames' third entry into that growing market in less than a year.
North Brunswick, NJ, will also add its first Ames location.
"We believe these stores are important, necessary steps for ensuring controlled growth in 2001," Ettore said. "We are looking forward to great openings and anticipate good performance from these stores."
