Couristan to debut 50 new looks in Atlanta

-- Home Textiles Today, 1/5/2009 1:16:00 PM

Fort Lee, N.J. – Area rug manufacturer and importer Couristan is bringing to market in Atlanta a fresh sampling of casual, contemporary looks that the company – which this year turns 83 -- is adding to its broad assortment of both handmade and power-loomed area rugs.

Set to launch this week at the Atlanta International Area Rug Market, the 50 introductions include new collections as well as additions to existing collections.

The focus is on transitional looks at modest price points, Couristan said, adding that the latest designs were “specifically made to attract cost-conscious buyers with an uncompromising taste for fashion-forward floor coverings.” New looks include metallic Lurex blends, multi-purpose performance qualities, and textured leather inlays to all-natural and un-dyed wools.

An example of a new high-performance collection is Covington. Made of the company’s fiber-enhanced Courtron polypropylene fiber, these rugs are resistant to water, weather, mold and mildew. The suggested retail for a 5-foot-6-inch-by-8-foot rug is $299.

Scintilla is an example of a new metallic collection. These rugs combine two popular design elements – shag texture and metallic tones. Power-loomed of 75% heat-set Courtron polypropylene and 25% Lurex-enhanced polypropylene, these rugs are set to retail for $299 for a 5-foot-3-inch-by-7-foot-6-inch.

Solstice represents a third new collection, and one flexible for both indoor and outdoor use. Its surface is made of heat-set Courtron polypropylene and features Lurex design highlights. The rugs are made in a traditional flat-weave style and are resistant to water, weather, mold and mildew. The suggested retail for a 5-foot-3-inch-by-7-foot-by-6-inch rug is $159.

Couristan said it is offering retail buyers “dramatic discounts” of up to 50% on qualifying orders on area rugs, broadloom samples and merchandising displays.
