Ikea names Netherlands head Ward to lead U.S. division

Conshohocken, Pa. – Specialty retailer Ikea has named Mike Ward president of Ikea U.S., effective Jan. 1, 2009.
Ward will step in as current Ikea US president Pernille Spiers-Lopez shifts to head of global human resources, overseeing 135,000 workers in 24 countries, the company said.
Ward currently is the chief of Ikea Netherlands. He joined Ikea Canada in 1986, and in 2001 was promoted to deputy retail manager, Ikea Netherlands. He has headed the division since 2005.
Spiers-Lopez has led Ikea US since 2001; she first joined the company in 1990.
