Victor wins GreenShield distribution

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/18/2008 2:10:00 PM

Saint-Georges, Quebec – Fabric producer Victor Group will be a mill distributor of trademarked GreenShield finishing treatment, a G3 Technology Innovations (G3i) eco-friendly stain- and water-repellent product.

The treatment is used in conjunction with Victor’s Eco Intelligent Polyester fabric lines.

GreenShield technology uses the principle of micro-roughness to reduce the use of harmful fluorochemicals on fabrics. Micro-roughness, a nanotechnology development, works at a molecular level to create a pocket of air between the fabric and water and/or oil, creating a natural repellent. GreenShield and Eco Intelligent Polyester are the only finishing fabric combination that uses up to five times less fluorochemicals than regular finishing, the company said.

Victor noted that GreenShield is also certified by Scientific Certification Systems as an Indoor Advantage Gold product and as a Low Fluorocarbon treatment product.

Developed by Victor, the Eco Intelligent Polyester (EIP) product was the first true “technical nutrient” textile, the company said. A technical nutrient is a material that remains in a closed-loop system of manufacture, reuse, and recovery, maintaining its value through many product life cycles. EIP was also the first antimony-free polyester, and uses fully optimized dyes and chemicals and is free of chlorine and PBTs.

When EIP fabrics are finished with GreenShield, they are certified Cradle to Cradle Silver by MBDC, a testing and certification lab. The EIP-GreenShield combination can also help contribute to LEED-CI points through innovation and design, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality points. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program is a benchmark system supervised by the U.S. Green Building Council; for information visit www.usgbc.org/leed.
