Macy's Ups Ante with Earth Week Events

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/21/2008

New York — Department store operator Macy's is providing marketing and exclusive financial support to the National Park Foundation in celebration of Earth Week and National Park Week.

The Macy's Turn Over A New Leaf campaign runs this week, April 20-27. In addition to spotlighting its eco-friendly merchandise, Macy's will offer a 100% natural cotton reusable tote bag to the first 150 customers on April 26 at the start of Macy's One Good Turn national charity event. The tote was created in partnership with Cotton Incorporated; it will sell for $3.95, with $1 of the purchase price directly benefiting the National Park Foundation.

In addition to other special promotions, Macy's will donate all of the proceeds from ticket sales for its charity-shopping event on April 26 and April 27 to the Foundation.

"The National Park Foundation is proud to be chosen as the first charity in Macy's history to be the sole beneficiary of a national charity shopping event," noted Vin Cipolla, president and ceo of the Foundation.

"A source of exploration and discovery, national parks are a beloved and vital part of our nation's heritage," said Peter Sachse, president, Macy's corporate marketing. "The National Park Foundation is a highly respected organization with an important mission, and Macy's connection to the general consumer offers a valuable platform to promote environmental activism."

Macy's Earth Week promotions will also feature an online sweepstakes — with a Ford Escape Hybrid car as the grand prize — and an electronic field trip to Everglades National Park, tailored to school children.
