Dollar General taps three to new positions

GOODLETTSVILLE, TN -Dollar General Corp. has announced that Melissa Buffington has been promoted to chief administrative officer, Tom Hartshorn to executive vp, merchandising and Bob Layne has been promoted to vp, merchandising support.
"These internal promotions complement the recent recruitment of Gregg Treadway as vp, store operations and Jim Hagan as our cfo," said Cal Turner Jr., chairman and ceo.
Before joining Dollar General in 1999 as vp, corporate human resources, Buffington served as executive vp, human resources for First American Corp.
"Melissa Buffington is one of the best executive talents I have ever known," Turner said, "and I am delighted that in her new role she will report directly to me."
Hartshorn joined the company in 1992 and has served as vp, operations; vp, merchandising operations; and, most recently, senior vp, logistics and merchandising operations.
"Tom Hartshorn knows and respects the Dollar General customer," said Turner. "His experience in store operations and logistics will be a great enhancement to the management skills he brings to our merchandising function."
Layne began as an intern for Dollar General in 1985. He later joined full time and has served as corporate training coordinator, staff attorney, assistant corporate secretary, corporate secretary and director of administration, and most recently, corporate secretary and director of employee services and field support.
"Bob Layne has demonstrated great leadership in all of his company assignments," Turner said. "In this new capacity he will oversee the management of our company's inventory-a significant responsibility, but one for which we believe Bob is very well suited."
