Indo Count Debuts Eco-Sheets

Mumbai, India — With the 50% to 60% price premium on pure organic cotton products proving too rich for many retailers, Indo Count has created a line of Eco-Sheets intended to strike the balance between environmental consciousness and pricing considerations.
"In place of organic cotton, we are using good quality Indian cotton, and we are using completely eco-friendly methods to do our processing and finishing," said Mohit Jain, director.
All chemicals and the sizing are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), a consortium of international groups that sets metrics and approves accredited certifiers. The Eco-Sheets process uses special reactive dyes from Ciba which are also GOTS certified. E-Control dyeing ensures consistent color reproduction without the use of urea or salts. Indo Count's Dimensa mercerizer recovers up to 80% of the caustic used, "which makes the process not only eco-friendly, but economical," Jain said.
The Eco-Sheet range includes percales, sateen, dobbies, yarn-dye and printed sheets.
The line debuted last month at Heimtextil and will be introduced in the U.S. during the New York Home Fashions Market next week. Indo Count will occupy a showroom at 7 W. 34th Street.
In addition, Indo Count will debut a 100% organic line dubbed The Nature Collection. The organic cotton is SKAL certified, which means every stage of handling from the cultivation to the manufacturing and storage is free from containments. The line is directed at boutique accounts.
Indo Count, a longtime spinner, went vertical in 2006.
