Surya Taps Industry Vet Roan

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/7/2008

Calhoun, Ga. — Indian rug manufacturer and importer Surya Carpets Inc. has appointed 20-plus year industry veteran Steve Roan as its coo.

As coo of Surya, Roan is responsible for managing all areas of the company's operations with the exception of sales and marketing, explained Surya president Satya Tiwari.

Roan's career in the soft floor covering industry over the past two decades began at Shaw Industries.

Most recently, he was a founding partner of S&S Resources, which spearheaded the entry of home furnishings and home accessories manufacturer, importer and retailer Klaussner Industries into the rug business. Mike Shupp, also a partner of S&S, has assumed expanded duties to further develop the Klaussner rug and home accents program.

Surya is a major supplier for the Klaussner program.

"Over the past two years of rapid growth, Surya has significantly expanded its scope in terms of product diversification, merchandising and marketing," said Tiwari. "To support the growth of the company, we have added several top sales, product development and sourcing executives during the past year. Going forward, we will be making several more announcements to further solidify our executive team and lay the groundwork for the future."

Surya is a vertically integrated manufacturing company established in India in 1976. Its U.S. division, based here, was incorporated in 1986 and specializes in area rugs.
