Sunbury Offers Sunbrella Sheers

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/17/2007

New York — The first Sunbrella sheer decorative fabrics now are hitting the market in a variety of constructions: gauze-like casement sheers, cut fringe jacquards and clipped jacquards.

The sheers, using Glen Raven's trademarked Sunbrella acrylic fiber, have been developed with Sunbury Textiles, which also develops and distributes the heavier weight decorative Sunbrella fabrics to the furniture and decorative jobber trades.

The inclusion of the jacquards is the result of a relationship with Sweden's Ludvig Svensson, which developed the technique, said Mark Grigalunas, svp, styling and design at Sunbury. The development of the sheers, which are offered in 118-inch and 59-inch widths depending on constructions, offer window products for indoor and outdoor use that won't fade or rot, and will dry in minutes, said Grigalunas. Sunbrella fabrics have no-fade, mildew resistant and bleach cleanability features as well, he added.

In addition to the outdoor uses and the need for sun-resistant fabrics for major indoor sunroom installations, "people are demanding billowing draperies for their McMansions, Grigalunas pointed out.

Randy Trull, who has been an ongoing consultant to Glen Raven and Sunbury, "brought this newest project to the table," he explained.
