Hilasal Expands Jacquard Lines

Updates Manufacturing Capabilities

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 8/7/2007

At the New York Market — Having recently expanded its capabilities for ring-spun and jacquard terry towels at its Salvadoran and Mexican sister headquarters, Hilasal Mills has ramped up its offerings in these constructions for market.

In jacquard styles, Hilasal is highlighting its new Sculptured collection of high-low towels.

"This is what is a hit in the marketplace right now," explained Larry Price, director of U.S. sales. "Jacs are what are selling well."

Sculptured comes in 24 solid colors and in five textured designs including a diamond zigzag, a stripe with zigzag border, a checker with a striped border, and a solid with a zigzag border. With the bath size priced at $7.99 for retail, Sculpted is made for the mid-tier department store customers.

Three months ago, Hilasal added new state-of-the-art machinery to expand its manufacturing capabilities at both its facilities — Guadalajara, Mexico; and San Salvador, El Salvador.

"Being able to now spin our own yarns makes us more competitive with our price quotes," Price said. Both facilities now have ring-spun cotton capabilities and the San Salvador site in addition has jacquard capabilities — which has allowed for the recent addition of double jacquard beach towels to Hilasal's hefty beach towel program.

Also new for market: a bigger assortment of Egyptian cotton varieties, such as the Opulence and Look Serious collections — both solid-colored groups featuring borders — the former having a narrow border and the latter a wider border. The company has also made additions to its fiber reactive cotton beach towels (as seen above).
