Natori Offers Rich Selection

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 8/7/2007

At the New York Market — Five new beds, a new solid color Natori Crest sheeting collection, and expansion of the coverlet collection highlight the Natori spring/summer 2008 introductions.

Color blocking is taken to new levels with Sariband, a new bed that uses vegetable dyes to print stripes on a handkerchief cotton that is tumble washed and dried. The printing technique allows dramatic stripes to be different from one edge of the bed to the other.

The stripes are then stitched, filled, quilted, and tumble washed again for ultimate softness. Shams and decorative pillows are made from hand-tied and dyed fabric and combined with abaca yarn and cowrie shells.

Artisan reflects the various techniques of artisan weaving in layered shades of natural, unbleached colors. The Natori bamboo/wool bed shawl is inspired by an Irish tweed pattern.

Lotus, inspired by a Chinese embroidered panel from Natori's archives, features the leaves and buds embroidered in bright pastel silky yarn on a dramatically contrasting ground of linen and cotton. Square pillow shams and decorative pillows repeat the embroidered motifs of the bed cover.

The new Natori Crest solid color sheet collection is a self-toned woven jacquard design of the Natori family crest on 400 thread count cotton The collection comes in 10 soft colors and is available in sheets that have self-colored, double corded hems, pillow cases, European square pillow shams, and button-closed comforter/duvet covers, which all reverse to white.

Two new designs for coverlets join two from the fall 2007 collection: Flower Cascade, a reproduction of a Japanese kimono design, embroidered in soft colors on pearl NatoriBamboo blend; and Tree of Life, inspired by a traditional Indian palimpore, trapunto-quilted on cotton.
