Bardwil Adds Accoutrements to Lenox

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 8/4/2007

New York — Bardwil Linens is further furnishing its popular Lenox-branded table linens program this market.

The 97-year-old table linens supplier has created an embellished, mix-and-match assortment of tablecloths, placemats, napkins and runners, appropriately enough for the Accoutrements dinnerware collection design by Anna Griffin for Lenox.

"We know this china pattern is doing very well at retail, and it would make sense for us to pick up a pattern like that to coordinate with our textiles," explained Amy Zemser, vp, sales and marketing.

Bardwil's take on Accoutrements includes, more specifically, tablecloths and placemats in damask, jacquard and repousse patterns that pair up with napkins and runners.

There are four placemat groupings that each feature ruffles, buttons, ribbons, cords and/or other trimmings.

Accoutrements table linens come in more than four designs in a palette of ivory and sage green with sweetbriar rose elements. These marry to create the complete program, based on Griffin's interpretation of a charming English Garden-inspired floral collection suitable for both formal and casual dining.

This Lenox-branded line falls into the same price bracket as sister collections, and also serves department stores and better specialty chains.

The table linens will be available for delivery in the fall.

The Lenox program is being refreshed elsewhere with new Butterfly Meadow looks.

In other market-related news, Bardwil has expanded its kitchen towel assortments of four-piece sets with new printed and dobbie styles, and has similarly grown its five-piece sets to include more versatile looks. Also in kitchen, accessories — pot holders, oven mitts, and other pieces — have been added as coordinates to the successful popcorn cotton kitchen towel line.

The Liz Claiborne designer line has four new collections.

And Bardwil's own line is focused on outdoor styles. Based on demand, the company has more than quadrupled its offerings in this category with additional waterproof tablecloths and placemats as well as new sizes for these pieces and new picnic totes, mats and blankets.

Finally, Bardwil recently hired Norah Foster as its designer for kitchen textiles.

Foster, who previously did design work for Town and Country Living, now reports to Julie Chisholm-Polich, vp, design.
