Towellers to Debut EarthTowel, EarthBlanket

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 7/30/2007

Karachi, Pakistan — At the upcoming New York Market (Aug. 6-10), Towellers Limited will introduce a complete line of eco-friendly home textiles using recycled and regenerated yarns.

Trademarked EarthTowel and EarthBlanket, the new products are made under an exclusive licensing agreement from ECO2cotton yarns produced by Jimtex Yarns. Producing yarns from textiles wastes uses about 50% less water and 25% less energy than with virgin cotton yarns and fabric, according to the company. Further, there is no bleaching or dyeing use in the processes.

The new product line will consist of yarn-dyed kitchen towels with coordinate terry pocket mitts and yarn-dyed woven blankets in various styles and weights. The collection is being produced through a joint venture with Chesapeake Textiles Co. of Annapolis, Md.

Towellers is working to expand the line into bath towels, beach towels and bedding in time for the international Heimtextil home textiles show in January 2008.

"Our eco towels and blankets are extremely durable and long-lasting," said Sheik Mohammed Obaid, managing director of Towellers. "They are colorfast and inherently preshrunk. These towels become softer and more absorbent after each washing and will outlast a normal cotton product."

Obaid said Towellers is also pursuing environmentally friendly manufacturing through its reverse osmosis treating of all waste water at its new 1 million-square-foot facility outside Karachi.
