Homespice Décor Bows Supernova Rugs

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/15/2007

Tucker, Ga.— Taking traditional braided rugs to new heights is braided rug and accessory manufacturer Homespice Décor. At the Atlanta International Area Rug Market, the company — formerly known as J Quilts Co. - is introducing its Supernova collection of contemporary braided rugs.

Junior Gupta, president, began developing Supernova in late 2005 as part of his company's mission "to modernize the concept of braided rugs and change consumer perceptions about this wonderful 300-year-old American tradition."

Supernova rugs are cotton. Each piece is handmade by one craftsman, who begins by creating a circular pattern at the rug's center and adds rows of braids connecting the center to the edge, "mimicking an artistic impression of a real supernova," Gupta explained. "We've designed new types of rugs that don't look outdated. While maintaining the quality and tradition of the centuries-old art of rug braiding, we have revolutionized the end result."

Now trademarked, Supernova's special construction called for Homespice Décor to invest in new machinery and production techniques, and provide extensive training to the 350 employees involved in the process, Gupta said.

Supernova rugs come in two colorways — Cape Cod, which comprises soft shades of brown, beige, green and blue; and Star Blossom, a more dramatic grouping in bright shades of blue, green, red, rust and ivory. By the end of 2007, 15 to 20 more colors will be added to the collection. Sizes span 2-by-3 to 8-by-10.
