Shri Lakshmi Prepares for Exports

New Delhi, India — Fiber and fabric maker Shri Lakshmi Cotsyn Ltd., which is exhibiting at Heimtextil this week, is preparing for the spring opening of a new $102 million production facility that will put the company into the home textiles and apparel exporting business.
The new facility will produce sheeting and top-of-bed and terry towels, as well as denim, bottom-weight fabrics for apparel and yarn dyeing.
Distribution to the U.S. market will be handled at facilities in Norcross, Ga. The management of U.S. accounts will be supervised by importer/distributor Georgia Cotton, headed by stateside import veteran Rafiq Lodhia.
Dr. M. P. Agarwal, chairman and managing director of Shri Lakshmi, said the company plans to hire a U.S. sales representative as well. The company is also setting up a separate facility to produce specialized industrial textile fabric, particularly for military applications.
