Pleasanton, Calif. — Home was one of two leading departments in the third quarter, said Ross Stores vice chairman, president and ceo Michael Balmuth on the company's conference call recently, as the 798-store off-price retailer reported earnings per share of $0.31, up 24% from $0.25 for the same period one year ago.
Sales reached $1.36 billion, up 10% from $1.24 for the same period one year ago. Comp-store sales were up 4% over a year-ago comp gain of 9%.
"Home and shoes remained the top-performing merchandise categories," said Balmuth, adding that both categories realized "comps in the high-single to low-double digits" for the quarter.
