1. Saks Inc. President Jennings leaving the company
Birmingham, Ala. -- Saks Inc. said Andrew Jennings has resigned as president of Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE). Stephen Sadove, vice chairman, ceo and coo of Saks Inc., will assume responsibility for the majority of Jennings's direct reports. The company does not intend to fill Jennings’ position.  more  
2. Family Dollar promotes Kelly to president, coo
Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores has promoted R. James Kelly to the position of president and coo. The company also announced a search for a new cfo; Kelly will continue to serve as cfo until the position is filled.  more

3. Lowe’s earnings increase; caution cited
Mooresville, N.C. – Lowe's Companies today reported net earnings of $935 million for the quarter ended Aug. 4, 2006, an 11.4% increase over the same period a year ago.  more  
4. Safavieh names Ghadimi to new post
New York – To support increased business over the past year and growth projected for 2007, Safavieh has added a new position of Midwest sales manager.  more  
5. Polyester maker Wellman exploring “strategic alternatives”
Shrewsbury, N.J. -- Wellman, Inc. said it is “exploring steps to improve its overall operating performance including strategic alternatives for its non-core businesses,” language that often means a company is seeking a buyer for some or all of its assets.  more  
6. EWHT to host jobs outlook event
New York – Executives Working in Home Textiles will host a networking party and panel discussion focused on home textiles jobs outlook, on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  more

    Home furnishings designers held their first Summer Social yesterday at Battery Gardens in lower Manhattan. The event brought together members of EWHT, IFDA, ASID, Decorators Club, Education Legacy Fund, and NKBA.

    Plano, Texas – Some 250 JCPenney colleagues and suppliers gathered at the retirement party for Steve McKeever late last month. McKeever, who was senior buyer for bedding, was with the company more than 30 years.
