Revman Debuts Izzy Paskowitz Bedding & Bath

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 8/8/2005

New York — Revman International debuted its new collection of surf-inspired bedding and bath products from Izzy Paskowitz, champion longboard surfer and president of San Diego-based Paskowitz Surf Camp, during last week's unofficial August Mini-Market.

The front portion of Revman's showroom was devoted to the youth-oriented Izzy brand, with a vibrant mix-and-match solid-color area and a fun novelty print section. The line has comforters, quilts, coverlets, sheet sets and two novelty resin bath accessory styles.

Five apparel-driven bed patterns and a tonal solid sheet program were shown in the mix-and-match area, each bed in five color combos: wave with kiwi, blossom with wave, tide with sun, reef with tide and sun with blossom. The Tiki sheet program comes in five colors. New bed patterns are Maverick, Curling Wave, Quiver, Oasis and Day Tripper. Twin comforters are priced at $99, quilted coverlets at $79.99 and sheet sets at $29.99. Items come packaged with an insert that features the signature Tiki print and a photo of Izzy Paskowitz performing his award-winning hang 10.

Maverick is channel quilted with peekaboo pleats exposing a contrasting color and grommet details. Curling Wave features a stylized wave motif in tonal greens, blues or pinks. Quiver is an all-over surfboard quilted coverlet, while Oasis features an all-over quilted palm tree motif. Day Tripper is an engineered channel-quilted solid pattern with an inset Tiki print panel on one side and contrast piping.

“It's like dressing your bed in surfer clothing,” said Diane Piemonte, vice president of creative services at Revman International. “We think this look has a broader range that can go to queen and king since it has a wider age appeal. We see it as a year-round bedding business on the retail floor.”

Novelty prints, which feature individual sheet designs and two to three dec pillows, are: Surf Central Pink with various boards on a battick ground; Mahalo Village, with scenic vignettes; Land Breezes, a map motif on aqua ground; Locals Only, with pop culture flowers and night scenes; Freestyle, a graphic hibiscus look; and Surf Central Navy. Designs are merchandised in a back-to-school surf kit duffle that includes the bedding ensemble minus the skirt for $129.99 twin.

Founded by Paskowitz's surfer father Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz in 1972, the Paskowitz Surf Camp runs classes each summer in California, Mexico and Montauk, N.Y., for surfers of all levels. In addition to the surf camp, Paskowitz is co-founder with his wife, Danielle, of Surfers Healing, a non-profit organization that brings the surf experience to autistic children. Inspired by the positive results of tandem surfing with their own autistic son, Isaiah, the Paskowitzs decided to share this form of therapy with other autistic children and their families. The couple hosts free day camps for autistic kids in Southern California, New York and Hawaii.

According to Richard Roman, president and CEO of Revman, “Izzy's unique family history and lifestyle as well as his strong sense of personal style bring authenticity and originality to this new collection.” Paskowitz will be an active partner in developing the line, “ensuring that Revman's products reflect his expertise in surf culture and design.”
