Thomasville Eschews Sameness in Bedding Lines

By Brent Felgner -- Home Textiles Today, 5/1/2006

New York — Thomasville Home Furnishings' latest bedding fashions span a range from cabin looks to the beach, from country estate to hip youthful looks and still others with ready-to-wear influence.

The assortments' positive reception seemed to echo the larger home textiles market-wide tone that demanded more differentiation and eschewed some of the safer “me-too” looks. For example, Lola offered a loft look with a blue and white, positive-negative feel. Decorative pillows, which generally took a larger role in defining top-of-the-bed design this spring, added a heavy ready-to-wear influence with a gingham, featuring a bias braid. Dancing Shoes accented the lifestyle feel.

In a similar vein, Lara brought a “hippy chic” look to the fore with an onyx look in a pumpkin color.

And Abaco was a lively youthful design on cotton duck, in canary, blue, azure and red. A dec pillow in a plaid stripe topped the offering.

Yet, abandoning safe looks didn't mean ignoring the classic styles. Charleston brought a new twist on a country estate feel, enhancing that with a “shabby chic” influence.

Among the company's other introductions were Cheyenne, featuring a very funky fringe, and Breckenridge, a narrow woven plaid stripe. From the beach collection, Amagansett featured a cotton duck print with an airy open-window feeling. Blossom uses a cotton duck with merging florals, a pencil stripe and pink shell design.
